The Year at G3VRE 2010

Talks

2010 was an eventful year at the Chippenham Club. There where a number of talks covering a wide range of subjects from Dxpeditions, to antenna height gain from hill top locations, from 50MHz propagation, to a once in a lifetime trip to exotic locations around the world.

It was all interesting stuff with more planned for 2011.

Portable
SSB field day

Two portable events also took place one for the Practical Wireless Two Metre low power contest during June and the other for SSB Field Day in September. When the PW results were announced the Club was pleased to discover that we where in 58th position out of a field of 93. It had been an enjoyable day and no one was expecting a top placing. Field Day saw the Club 15th in the restricted section, not bad for a first attempt in recent years. Here's hoping for even more success in 2011.

The Club tower saw some major antenna changes and an overhaul with the replacement of some of the older VHF beams, the addition of a Six Metre beam and all the winch cables renewed. The HF beam was also replaced with a new Cushcraft A4S four element multi-bander.

To match the refurbished antenna system the shack also had a face lift with new desks and a new computer.
